Notes from the Balcony
Perhaps it’s spring, nature’s heralding of new life that has born the idea to at last make a start on noting down the thoughts and observations of the apothecary’s daughter. The balcony is where I sit to write them, to be surrounded by as much of my principal subject - nature - as I can be within the urban walls of my home; the balcony also represents the idea of sitting as a member of the audience in the theatre of life, looking down and taking note. I missed the spring equinox (although it is actually the winter equinox that signifies renewal, the lengthening of days), but Easter Sunday seemed an appropriate alternative to make a start.
